Small public service vehicles are regulated by the Commission for Taxi Regulation to ensure appropriate standards for both operators and users of taxis, hackneys and limousines. The following areas are subject to regulation:
- Vehicle standard and conditions: learn more about vehicle standards.

- The area in which taxis can ply and stand for hire – known as a taximeter area: learn more about taximeter areas.
Following liberalisation of the market in 2000, the number of small public service vehicles is no longer restricted, i.e. there is no cap on the number of licences.
