(This note is not part of the Instrument and does not
purport to be a legal interpretation)
These Regulations confirm the existing fees payable for the grant,
continuation in force or renewal of licences in respect of small public
service vehicles. By virtue of section 50(1) of the Taxi Regulation Act 2003,
these Regulations allow licence fees to accrue to the Commission for Taxi
Regulation.
These Regulations also allow the Commission for Taxi Regulation to grant licences in respect of small public service vehicles and their drivers. They further provide that licensing authorities, other than the Commission, who engage in the licensing of small public service vehicles may continue to do so.
In addition, these Regulations revoke the power of local authorities to fix maximum taxi fares. This is now a function of the Commission for Taxi Regulation under the provisions of section 42 of the Taxi Regulation Act 2003.
