Submissions sought on Strategy Document by Commission for Taxi Regulation
The Commission for Taxi Regulation is inviting comments on the Commission’s Statement of Strategy Document, which outlines the role and function of the Commission. The Commission is accepting views and feedback on this document until August 26th 2005.
The Strategy Document takes into account the principal functions and key objectives of the Commission The principal function of the Commission is the development and maintenance of a regulatory framework for the control and operation of small public service vehicles and their drivers.
Among the objectives addressed in the Strategy Document are the promotion of the provision and maintenance of quality services by small public service vehicles and their drivers; pursuing the continued development of a qualitative and customer orientated licensing system, regulatory code and standards for small public service vehicles, small public service vehicle licence holders and small public service vehicle drivers; overseeing the development of a profession, safe, efficient and customer friendly service by small public service vehicles and their drivers; encouraging and promoting competition in relation to services (including fares) offered by small public service vehicles; the promotion of measures to facilitate increased integration of taxi services in the public transport system; and the promotion of access to small public service vehicles by persons with disabilities.

The Commission is also seeking submissions on its Roadmap Towards a New National Code of Regulation for Taxis, Hackneys and Limousines. This document outlines in detail the changes the Commission intends to make to the way taxis hackneys and limousines are regulated. Drivers, owners, dispatchers, suppliers, passengers and potential passengers will all be affect by these changes.

The Commission for Taxi Regulation established under the 2003 Taxi Regulation Act is an independent Public Body with the principal function of developing and maintaining a regulatory framework for the control and operation of small public service vehicles and their drivers to ensure a quality consumer orientated service for taxi, hackney and limousine users.
