One of the Commission for Taxi Regulation’s statutory objectives is to encourage investment to support and enhance SPSV services and to promote innovation in this regard. It is important that all businesses have an innovative approach and make the best use of available technology. In the SPSV sector significant improvements could be achieved for drivers, customers and the environment through the use of modern communications systems and Satellite Navigation Systems. They provide the potential to improve customer service and driver safety and security. To promote innovation, the Commission for Taxi Regulation will keep itself informed of the latest developments in relation to international advances in technology and services available to and through SPSVs.
The Commission for Taxi Regulation will hold information seminars throughout the country to inform service providers of the opportunities presented in particular through the use of modern technology and safety and security features.
The Commission for Taxi Regulation will also provide this information directly to licensed drivers, operators and dispatch centres through written communication and newsletters. The opportunities presented through innovation will also feature as part of the Driver Skills Development Programme. This process of promoting innovation among service providers will commence in 2008 in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Scheme and the Quality Mark. Participants in this scheme will be required to demonstrate a higher level of innovation than that required by regulation.
